You too can be the first to own this fantastic piece of history. Feel free to put it in the most prominent place you can think of to look at and think how amazing your life is with President Obama almost in office and this trinket in your life.
I seriously nearly fell off the elliptical machine when I saw this on CNN last night. Enjoy!
I won't deny that it's over the top, but I think you are perhaps missing the fact that a lot of people feel really good about the fact that we have a black president. If I had been involved with the civil rights movement in the 60s or something, I might be exuberant enough to think I wanted one of these.
Don't get me wrong - I think commemorative plates are as kitschy as hell. Obama winning is a really big deal to a lot of people, though.
The above said, what a hilarious commercial. I LOVE the way the race elephant in the room is avoided, with most of the shots of plate enjoyment by middle-class whiteys.
I'm not denying the way that people feel really good about Obama, nor even that the plate isn't handsome and integritous. I'm merely saying that's the most amazing infomercial I've ever seen. It makes me want to get one, just so I can do what that one guy at the desk does at work. Every time that I have a tough decision or am not feeling quite like working, I'll look over at my graven image of President Obama and his kind eyes and confident smile and think that I certainly can keep on going.
