Culinary Prostitutes

My wife and I were helping my sister-in-law move to Salt Lake this past weekend and her apartment is actually quite nice. I was very impressed by the quality of the interior and by the price she was paying. I wasn't as impressed by the neighbors nor by the neighborhood. It seemed a little rough around the edges, with the possibility of a burglary of domestic dispute happening at any moment, but it'll be good. That's not the reason for this post however. Instead, this is because just a mile from her house we passed the Ho Ho Gourmet on 33rd South. I've never been there, and have no idea if it's any good or not, but I have to say I love the name of it. I wonder what their clientele is like?

Are you kidding? The Ho Ho Gourmet is the best (real) Chinese food in Salt Lake. I'm totally serious. You have to go there.

Sure, it looks pretty bad on the outside, and also the inside, but the food is great. And very cheap. Go eat there, and don't not go eat there.

I should add that the one I am speaking of (I think there are a couple at least) is on the West side of State Street across the street and just a little north of the old South High School where SLCC is now.

I, too, have eaten at the Ho Ho Gourmet. There's one in Bountiful. Can't give you an objective review of the food, as this was back when I was a kid and chinese food was 'icky'.

My first thought on seeing "Ho Ho" was actually Santa Claus. I guess some of us just have trollops on the mind...

Nothing like a trollop on the mind! Since my sister in law lives right by there I think I'm going to have to give it a try. I still think the name's awesome though.

Just make sure you go to the one I am talking about, which is up the road between 1700 south and 1300 south. It's smaller than the "New" Ho Ho Gourmet you photographed, but better from what I know. If you are headed north toward downtown on State Street, you'll see the Ho Ho sign on the left.
[realized I should put a link to Google maps here]
